The Deputy Governor of Basra discusses with the President of the Arab Gulf Academy for Maritime Studies the development of its work and the preparation of its cadres

Basra The First Deputy Governor of Basra, Engineer Muhammad Taher Al-Tamimi, discussed with the President of the Naval Academy, Major General Hisham Taher Hammadi, the development and preparation of human cadres to provide safety and efficiency elements in Iraqi transport to compete with neighboring countries.

Al-Tamimi said, in a press statement, that “the maritime transport sector plays an important role in economic and social development, as it is one of the important modes of transport, and attention must be paid to the maritime transport industry, which is considered a major and important tributary to support the national economy and has a major role in economic development instead of state’s dependence on oil, stressing that “the transport industry depends mainly on the qualified and trained human element, and attention must be paid to developing and preparing human cadres to provide safety and efficiency elements in Iraqi transport to compete with neighboring countries.”

He explained that “the governorate has previously implemented the planetarium project, which is considered one of the most important projects that helped the Naval Academy to advance the specialist reality of the College of Naval Engineering in practical application in the field of marine studies.”

It is noteworthy that “the Arabian Gulf Academy for Maritime Studies is an Iraqi academy specialized in marine studies. It was established in 1975 in Basra. It is one of the most important and oldest maritime academies specialized in marine studies in the Arab world, and it is the second Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria, Republic of Egypt, and the first in the Arab Gulf region, large numbers of naval personnel adopted by the Iraqi civil and military fleets, including the General Company for Ports, Maritime Transport, Oil Tankers, and Fishing, and the military naval force represented by the coast guard and military frigates.
