Riyadh, President of the Human Rights Commission and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons Dr. Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad, reiterated that the success achieved by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in combating trafficking in persons and its advancing in global ranking came as a result of its support for humanitarian work, reflected in the development of the legal and institutional structure, which enhances the work environment and protects all segments of society.
Al-Awwad made his remarks during an opening speech at the third two-day government forum to discuss the challenges of combating trafficking in persons in the Middle East 2021, hosted by the Kingdom virtually today, with the participation of heads of committees concerned with combating trafficking in persons in the GCC countries, as well as Arab and international representatives.
He stressed that the Kingdom has paid great attention to combating human trafficking crimes through a comprehensive system, including the issuance of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law, setting up a committee to combat human trafficking crimes, the launch of a national strategy to combat these crimes, joining relevant conventions and protocols, and the adoption of the National Referral Mechanism, adding that this strategy contributed to building a system that ensures the protection of all persons from such crimes without discrimination, and the provision of assistance and compensation to victims.
