Ministry of Foreign Affairs Expresses Welcoming of Saudi Arabia to Extend Truce in Yemen for an Additional Two Months, and Stresses Importance of Opening Humanitarian Crossings in Taizz

Riyadh, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the welcoming of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to extend the truce in the brotherly Republic of Yemen for an additional two months, and stresses the importance of opening humanitarian crossings in Taizz.

The Kingdom appreciates the efforts of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Mr. Hans Grundberg, in strengthening commitment to the truce sponsored by the United Nations, in line with the initiative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced in March 2021 to end the crisis in Yemen and reach a comprehensive political solution.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stresses the Kingdom’s firm and supportive position on everything that guarantees the security and stability of the Republic of Yemen and achieves the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people.

The Ministry stressed that the truce aims primarily to reach a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in Yemen and start the political process between the Yemeni government and the Houthis. It also stresses the importance of the Houthis’ commitment to the terms of the current truce and the speedy opening of crossings in Taizz to alleviate human suffering in it, and deposit revenues in the Central Bank of Yemen to pay the salaries of the civilians.
