GEAGEA MEETS UN’S WRONECKA, PUSHES FOR SERIOUS ATTENTION TO REFUGEE CRISIS

"Lebanese Forces" party leader, Samir Geagea, on Wednesday met at the party's headquarters in Maarab, United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, with whom he discussed political and economic developments. During the meeting, Geagea stressed the need to address the issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon. 'The matter has changed from being a humanitarian issue to become a sovereign one. This requires of all stakeholders, starting with the Lebanese government, donor countries, and international organizations, to give the matter all the required attention and seriousness,' Geagea stressed, pushing on decision-makers to benefit from regional developments to reach the aspired solution. On the presidential issue, Geagea reaffirmed that "the chances of the opposition candidate are far from what some are trying to portray and market, given that he [Sleiman Frangieh] does not have the required local support to assume the presidency.' "Lebanon needs a president who enjoys a sovereign personality, whose loyalty is only to the homeland, who does not relent in the face of pressures, and is governed only by the constitution and supreme national interests,' Geagea added, expressing regret over the postponement of municipal and mayoral elections.
