Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Nassif Hitti, was informed during a call on Wednesday with the Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Arancha González Laya, that the government of Spain has asked the European Union Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy, Olivér Várhelyi, who is concerned with the countries of the southern Mediterranean, to develop a program that includes various aids to neighboring countries, specifically Lebanon.
The Spanish Minister expressed the importance of supporting Lebanon at this stage, while Minister Hitti thanked Spain for this initiative.
The phone call was also a chance to explore ways to confront the threat of the spread of the Corona epidemic and what countries are doing, as well as the current prevailing situation in Europe.
In the same connection, Hitti also contacted today Commissioner Várhelyi to thank him and discuss the material and qualitative assistance that the European Union can provide to Lebanon in this delicate circumstance.
Both men agreed that Minister Hitti would provide Várhelyi tomorrow with a list of priorities that Lebanon needs, so that the EU Commissioner can, in turn, prepare a list of what the European Union can extend to Lebanon within the framework of the neighborhood policy and the bilateral cooperation between Lebanon and the European Union.
