President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, on Monday told visiting Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Sigrid Kaag, that the next government shall pay special attention to economic affairs and anti-corruption process, in parallel with all other issues of interest to the Lebanese.
President Aoun hailed the cooperation between Lebanon and the Netherlands in the economic and trade spheres, stressing the importance of further activating and reinforcing this cooperation in all fields.
Aoun thanked the Kingdom of the Netherlands for its participation in the conferences held recently in support of Lebanon in Rome, Paris and Brussels, appreciating Kaag's readiness to host a follow up meeting on the outcome of the Cedre conference held in Paris.
It is to note that Kaag has assumed the post of UN Secretary General's Representative in Lebanon, prior to her appointment as Dutch Foreign trade Minister.
The meeting took place in the presence of Dutch Ambassador to Lebanon, Jan Waltmans, and her accompanying delegation.
Kaag said she was glad to be visiting Lebanon as a Foreign Trade Minister, recalling her time of office in Lebanon.
She congratulated President Aoun on the accomplishment of the recent legislative elections and the imminent formation of a new government.
The Dutch Minister also relayed her country's position in support of strengthening cooperation with Lebanon in the various fields, especially at the economic and agricultural levels, in a bid to face the repercussions caused by the Syrian refugees' displacement to Lebanon since 2011.
Kaag stressed that Lebanon is able to play a pioneering role in the region, especially at the start of the Syria's reconstruction process.
On the other hand, Aoun received at the Baabda palace head of the 'National Dialogue" Party, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, with whom he held a tour d'horizon bearing on the current situation locally and regionally.
MP Makhzoumi said on emerging that they broached most recent developments on the local and external arena. He expressed his faith in the wisdom of the President and his ability to bring people together to achieve the country's uprising and preserve its stability.
Makhzoumi urged all political forces to facilitate the birth of the new government away from narrow political calculations.
Later, Aoun met with head of the "Lebanese House" in Los Angeles, Joseph Karaki, who briefed him on the activities of the Lebanese House, especially in terms of activating communication between the Lebanese Diaspora in the United States with their motherland.
Aoun then met with members of the family of the late Red Cross Medic, Hanna Lahoud, who was martyred in Yemen as he was performing his humanitarian duty with the International Red Cross.
