BAGHDAD, The US-led coalition has denied the establishment of a new military base in the northern Iraqi province of Jabal Sinjar, saying that its operations in Syria are indefinite, despite US President Donald Trump's announcement that he would withdraw US forces from this country soon ".
"In response to a question about whether the preparations had been made for the withdrawal of troops, Colonel Thomas Phil, spokesman for the " Steel Determination Operation", run by the coalition against the Daesh organization in Syria and Iraq, said during a briefing to reporters at the Pentagon from Iraq via a television bridge. "It is impossible to talk about the end of the operations of the allies in Syria, pointing out that the coalition is based on the requirements of the current moment and the most important eradication of" Daesh, "which requires a lot of efforts.
The Spokesman added that the coalition intensified its raids in Syria in recent months, reaching 304 raids in May, three times more than in March, confirming the killing of a senior official in the "Daesh" called Ahmad al-Hamdouni on May 17.
Phil said that the coalition had no intention of engaging in the civil war in Syria and was not interested in confronting government forces.
The spokesman criticized the report issued by Amnesty International on the extent of the massive destruction suffered by the city of Raqqa, Syria, as a result of the bombing of the coalition, during a campaign to recover it from the grip of "Daesh," stressing the Coalition's commitment to inflict the least damage to civilians and public utilities.
The Spokesman denied the news that the Coalition is establishing a new military base in Jabal Sinjar in northern Iraq near the border with Syria, explaining that this is just a military convoy of the Coalition arrived in the region.
