MP Ibrahim Kanaan maintained that the share of the president of the republic in the next Cabinet was "settled" and "non-negotiable," in remarks made following the Strong Lebanon parliamentary bloc's regular meeting on Tuesday.

"The formation of the government falls within the powers of the president and the prime minister-designate; the 2018 legislative elections are the basis according to which parties will be represented in the Cabinet lineup," Kanaan said.

"We do welcome any cooperation to achieve the sought goals, such as the refugees' return and the fight of corruption," he added.

"The share of the president of the republic in the government is settled and non-negotiable, in terms of law and practice," he stressed.

"We call everybody to facilitate the Cabinet formation, and we will do everything that is in the best interest of the tenure, Lebanon, and all the Lebanese," he concluded.
