BAGHDAD, The export of gas to the province of Basra is subject to payment of the costs involved in the transportation of gas to Iraq, Assistant Oil Minister Hamidraza Iraqi said.

The official IRNA news agency quoted Hamidraza Iraqi as saying: "Baghdad is the decision maker in this regard and Iraqi officials are currently working to resolve the financial and balance issues related to the import of gas."

He pointed out that "on the second phase of the export of gas to Iraq, Basra announced its readiness to import gas from Iran, but the gas has not been exported to it so far."

He added: "All the conditions for the import of gas from Iran is ready and one of the reasons for the delay to start exporting gas to Basra is that the pipelines in this area were not ready, but are now ready."

A memorandum of understanding between Iran and Iraq was signed for exporting gas from Iran to the Baghdad and Basra stations. The first phase of this memorandum has been implemented since May 2017 to export gas to Baghdad from the gas station of Naft Shahr west of Kermanshah province in western Iran.
